Wecome to CLTASA

Our
Story

Chinese language education in South Africa has a rich history of over 80 years, beginning with private schools established by the local Chinese community and evolving with the support of the Chinese government. A significant milestone was reached in 2016 when Mandarin was added to the national curriculum as a Second Additional Language, enhancing linguistic diversity in schools. As interest in Chinese language education grows, so does the demand for qualified teachers and localized strategies, though many educators previously lacked professional support. To tackle these issues, the Chinese Language Teachers Association South Africa (CLTASA) was registered in January 2019 support from the Chinese Embassy's Education Section.

Our Vision

The establishment of CLTASA serves as a milestone, providing a formal local platform for qualification management and advocacy. We empower our members by:

  • Providing the latest policy updates and pedagogical trends.

  • Facilitating professional training and academic exchanges.

  • Enhancing teaching competencies and expanding career horizons.

CLTASA is committed to bridging the gap between classroom practice and professional growth, ensuring that Chinese education in South Africa thrives under local expertise.
